Those two belong together, and they tell you how the truck was ordered. A locking rear sends power to both back wheels instead of whichever one has already given up --- mud, a wet boat ramp, a field after rain. The shield is what keeps the transfer case intact while you find out.
Same order sheet: 3.42 gears, hill descent control, and P275/55R20 all-terrains on 20s. Somebody spec'd it to leave the pavement, not to look like they might.
