    Coil springs and a multi-link rear end, under a pickup bed.

    That is the Ridgeline's argument in one line, and it is the part you notice in the first mile rather than on a spec sheet. A multi-link rear means each back wheel deals with the road on its own, so an empty bed stops being something you feel. What it did not cost is the truck part --- 1,544 pounds of payload, a Class III hitch with trailer sway control, the wiring harness already run.

    3.5 i-VTEC V6 with variable cylinder management, a nine-speed with shift-by-wire and paddles, full-time all-wheel drive on permanent locking hubs, and an electro-mechanical limited-slip differential. Selectable drive mode, transmission oil cooler.
